belt snapped last night

driving my son to the gym last night and bloody hell the belt snapped it sounded like a whip.no power steering bloody hard work lol
for a second i cacked my self but it was alternator belt not a big job but i did panic and im going to get main belt changed to
i looked on euro car parts for the alternator belt under £15.00 seems i may shell out little extra for better quality...
anyone no how much i should pay for the main belt and if there any other parts i need could you kindly tell me individual prices cheers guys im not going to use the car at the moment until all is replaced if needed as love this car
thanx

The price depends on what you want to replace. Think you can get just a gates cambelt from importcarparts for about £60-70. I personally wouldnt bother with just the belt but rather the whole kit which is a dayco belt, idlers and tensioners and waterpump for about £280. Then the cost of anti freeze, thermostat and the alternator belt and aircon belt...

My alternator and aircon belt I just got from my local parts store, I wouldn't bother paying extra for those belts.

Choice is yours

I shall be changing mine hopefully soon and have been flicking through the net before ringing a few places and have found a dayco kit with auto tensioner and 5 idlers for £166 on import car parts.

Mine had been done by power engineering a few months before I bought it, parts and labour for a genuine belt and all tensioners/idlers without a water pump was £750, glad I don't have to worry about it for a while.

Jesus!! I hope there was a full service included in that too.

Nope, the full invoice was for £1200 inc VAT. Diagnostics, Lambda, MAF, belt, pulleys and tensioners, coolant and a brake pressure bleed and labour. He'd spent nearly as much on the car in the previous 12 months as I paid for it.
