R1GNO The R

I've gone and done it, got another scoob. This will be a major project. Something to get my teeth into though.

Bits I could do with right away, either cheap of free :ok:

Bonnet
Front Bumper
Rear Bumper

Plan is the strip the shell first, get rid of all the tin worm. Decide on a colour..then go from there.

SpecB 21-05-2013 08:11 PM

Looks a solid base, you should be able to sell some of the bits on if you're planning a full strip!

Hongkongfooi 21-05-2013 08:31 PM

wow nick thats going be hard work! Good luck.

Once its finished will the black one be staying?

BIG"E" 21-05-2013 08:35 PM

Wow that is a project and a half.

Good luck..

C. J. 21-05-2013 08:40 PM

Good to see it arrived have fun :)

simba 21-05-2013 08:50 PM

majorscooby 21-05-2013 09:13 PM

Looks interesting, good luck with it and ill be following the progress.

Steve_PPP 21-05-2013 09:15 PM

That looks quite a project. Whats your plans for it? As lightweight as possible for track? Drag?

SamSTI 21-05-2013 09:16 PM

That should keep you busy mate, good luck with it.

scotty 21-05-2013 10:02 PM

Nice clean example of a shell to start your major project with . You are going to be a very busy man for a while .

jonnyricer5 22-05-2013 12:17 AM

Good show i saw you were all over this on scoobynet!!

Mortster 17-06-2013 11:31 AM

Small update

Got a few bits for it, CJ gave me the heads up on a whole car, which would have been ideal, but after a honeymoon, was just out of my price range.

eBay came up trumps and fairly cheap for

Headlights
Sidelights
Front indicators
Steering column stalks.
Front 3D Grill
Wing mirror ( yes just 1 )

And a chat with Nick from Sussex got me a front and rear bumper and a bonnet.

Once fitted I can take the cover off, as it will resemble a car more, rather than a heap.

Anger 17-06-2013 01:17 PM

If you need any help let me know Nick

Mortster 23-06-2013 07:43 PM

No real update yet, due to the poxy weather.

Few more bits bought though.

P1 Clocks for £12.50! Yes £12.50
Sti Scoop and vents, again in the correct colour.
Rear lights, just normal for the mo, a steal at £9.99!

All the arches have been cleaned up, and painted in silver Hammerite.

Just need a little welding done, then its bolt everything on.

I have a plan ( ish ) now too.

1. Body work, bumpers lights etc etc
2. Inside - needs everything apart from dash top and clocks.
3. Brakes
4. Diff, Gearbox etc etc
5. Engine

asperformance 23-06-2013 08:08 PM

fairly sure the v4 clocks are a different fitment to the P1 (v5/6) ones??

wiring loom isnt...................

scotty 23-06-2013 09:35 PM

You could have had all my lights for free instead of buying them lol don't know what I'm going to do with them now .

Started to clean up all the arches, some minor surface rust. Wire brushed it, treated it, then a covering of antirust primer. Layer of hammerite to finish it off.

Made the mammoth drive over to Battle this morning, picked up Bonnet, front and rear bumpers. Bit of a bonus as the bonnet was a Ali one!

Its not bolted all on properly yet, just working out what I have/Haven't got.

One thing I do need its bolts! When you buy bits, no one ever gives you the bolts/screws to go with them!

Hongkongfooi 06-07-2013 11:07 PM

Nice one nick making progress already:asskiss:

jonnyricer5 06-07-2013 11:59 PM

I've a STI and a WRX set I'm toying with, but wheels are a long long way off at the mo. I'm still taking bits off at the mo.

Mortster 11-08-2013 10:46 PM

Still taking bits off at the mo, but decided to tackle the wires...Jesus it was a mess!

Cut out the alarm and reconnected the bypassed wires. Removed any added rubbish! There was a flamer kit !!

http://www.mortster.net/images/The%2...wire%20(1).jpg

http://www.mortster.net/images/The%2...wire%20(2).jpg

The stereo wires were a joke! Instead of getting a ISO connector, every single wire had been cut!

http://www.mortster.net/images/The%2...wire%20(3).jpg

Still puzzled by this though.

http://www.mortster.net/images/The%2...wire%20(5).jpg

Steve_PPP 11-08-2013 10:52 PM

Blimey, that looks rather confusing! Bet you've spent a few hours online searching for wiring diagrams!

Hongkongfooi 11-08-2013 11:20 PM

That wiring looks a nightmare:shock:

Mortster 24-08-2013 01:19 PM

Not a update, but found some history from 2005 on the car.

http://bbs.scoobynet.com/private-for...of-extras.html

AndyH 26-08-2013 08:57 AM

Hi Nick,
Yup that's my old car from back in 2001-2005. It was a well known SIDC car in Kent at the time and apart from fatmanscoobys car it was probably the best spec one around at the time.

I am way at the moment but will put up some history about the first owner, the magazine mention and the uniqueness of the shell.

Ps. Just read about some bodges.
The stereo was fitted by the previous owner and I never needed to touch it, but flamer kits were a popular add on to scare Saxos back in 2002, so I have to cop the flack for that decision.:getmecoat:

Be back in front of a PC at the weekend.

I think I took that car to every show and rolling road day going when I had it. I had already started to step away from the scooby scene when I bought BRD's old car as a replacement.

Hi Hugh. I hope you are well. Nice to see you around too.

Nick,
Sorry matey, I got straight back into dad mode with running kids around last weekend. I'm sat in a field at the moment watching footsie training, but should put some stuff up later.

Morning Andy, no worries. Haven't done much this week anyway. Started to clean and paint the underside of the car. Long long job. Still haven't sorted the loom behind the clocks yet, picking up a new one from another STI to compare next week, then the insides can go back in.

One bargain this week though, JDM folding mirrors for £16.90!

How do you train for that?!

Mortster 23-09-2013 09:11 AM

Small update, goto love wrongly advertised ebay items...

Tdo4 and another turbo, plus pipes.

Turns out the other turbo was a VF35, other pipes were standard headers and a STi up pipe!

All for £185!

C. J. 23-09-2013 12:22 PM

Not done a lot lately, not as much as hoped.

Got a doner car fro a few bits.

http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...1&d=1383153620

Wrapped it up for the storm. We're surrounded by trees, and a good clear 5-6mile run up the valley from the Hindhead Tunnel with nothing across the fields, so the wind really picks up....and no damage at all.

http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...1&d=1383153620

Other than that, got these for £250 :shock: Really pleased, as they were the seats when it was ordered new.

http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...1&d=1383153620

And to keep it looking as it did years ago, got these for a steal too.

http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...1&d=1383153648

Hongkongfooi 30-10-2013 06:41 PM

Haven't done much lately, re built Benji's old car, was too nice to scrap. Changing loads on the landy.

But..have got some more goodies, slowly building up now.

Apexi and hand control, thanks to CJ and Simon for this.

http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...1&d=1393356367

Some nice adjustable suspension. Has been dipped to clean it all up, just needs re-spraying now.

scotty 25-02-2014 10:26 PM

Getting there Nick are you selling Benji's old car to get some funds for your project and are you keeping it silver or you going to do a colour change .

Scott.T 25-02-2014 10:37 PM

Ohlins 35 click adjustable, sold as just damper units, with users to select their own springs. carried a similar price tag to billies when new. They have some jap make springs on them that lower -35mm, I wont know what the ride is like until the car is running though.

SpecB 26-02-2014 06:35 AM

Good buy! Coming together nicely!

Mortster 10-03-2014 07:09 PM

Finally some nice weather, so I spent the weekend in the bat cave ( literally )

Engine is now out of the V1, ready to be stripped down and rebuilt to go into the R.

The engine out of the yellow peril is ready to come out and go straight into the v1, then shes done.

Once there both gone, R1GNO can be moved into the bat cave, and finally make some progress.

Bargain of this week....P1 Spot covers and lights for £50!

With HiHo Silver eating all my project time ( and the landy...) R1NGO hasn't had much love lately.

But with a chance look at JPP webby, they had a set of V4 Clocks with the Loom still attached! Where slightly expensive, but the chances of finding the DCCD loom I needed were next to nothing.

And if your going to rebuild something, may as well do it properly.

So I started to re-attach the plugs for the DCCD ECU ( got these a while ago, again by chance )

http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...1&d=1403469343

Now a nice yellow plug, where a gaping hole was before

http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...1&d=1403469343

And to correct my slight fcuk up with the clocks, Ive now a V4 set, rather than a V5 set. ( V5 now sold though, made back what I paid for them )

http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...1&d=1403469343

scotty 22-06-2014 11:28 PM

Started to refit the interior, to make sure nothing is missing. Also did a test of the electrics, everything works as it should!

Decided to take the flocked dash out, and fit a proper JDM style one, ie no passenger airbag.

Now that HiHo is done, I can get cracking on with this.

Wow!

It went up North to York when I sold it in 2005, but I never realised that it came back down South again.

I did prefer it when the wheels were black chrome though. I have never thought the gold and silver went together.

Does it still have the original ignition barrel?
It used to let you take the key out, with the engine running.

I have an embarrassing video somewhere when the fell to the floor mid corner at Silverstone and I got serious lift off oversteer and span.

Finally got my arse into gear and re-started working on R1GNO. The CDB is now almost stripped down, all that's left to do is split the block. Inspect the damage on the spun bearing then go from there.

Strangely there wasn't any debris in the sump, or on the pick up, and the piston bores look fine.

Took the pond liner roof off the bat cave, as it was leaking....

I was also worried about its weight, so the guy who built the frame, came back and put a proper roof on for me, and made it stronger as well.

Just before new roof, everything stripped off that I'd just chucked up.

Just before being felted. Its nice and dry now though, can lidt the R right up and finish the underside.

Sadly not yet.

The Bug decided death by fire was a good idea on the way home from a MOT, caught it just in time. Off the road for ages to replace the entire PS system.

Then the wife takes it out, and some old farts decides he dosnt like the front end....

Once the Bug is sorted, its go go go with R1NGO ( maybe :-D )

AndyH 22-06-2015 10:22 PM

Sorry to hear of the bad luck. Hopefully, the worst is behind you.

From a purely selfish standpoint, i truly want to see her restored back to her former glory.(or better).
