Stage 2/3 420 bhp?

So today in the middle of a blizzard I handed the car over to Niel at slow boy racing. After only having the car mapped about 4-5 months ago I decided to go for more horses.
The plan is :
Mdx555 billet turbo
Fmic
And bigger injectors

Any one on here with similar setup on a blob sti?
And what power / drivability

Hi Charlie

We are run on our wagon 2.1L build by Neil@Slowboy racing with MDX321T(which is same/similar as yours MDX555) and driveabilty has been awesome, pull from low RPM has been just great,we are made 452bh on V-power and 490bhp on 20% methanol

What version you will be running of the MDX555 400 or 450,what injectors you will be running?

Yours car is in good hands with Neil@Slowboy racing

Interesting your running the stroker Jura.
It may be something I'd go for.
Do you know what the drive-in/out cost would be based on Slowboy's 2.1 500 : http://www.slowboy-racing.co.uk/inde...mart&Itemid=73

Hi Scott

Yes we are run 2.1L stroker and must admit, great engine and really we are never have problems with the engine, just wish we are went with better heads and we will gain like on spool and top end,but still we are made 490bhp on 20% methanol and 452bhp on V-power

I would go with 2.1L over 2.0L forged rebuild, difference in the price is not that high

Not sure on the prices, our 2.1L has been based on the spec as above you are posted, just we are have Cosworth pistons(please speak with Neil if Cosworth are available for 2.1L stroker),11mm ARP headstuds plus other bits

Not to sure on the size of the injectors as I'm going with Niels recommendations , It must be the mdx555 450 , I will find out a bit more when I speak to Neil mid week, he definitely knows his stuff.

Yeah I will mate I know we were talking about doing it at srr last year, didn't think I would actually be doing it so soon.:-D

That's right mate yeah. Bitten by the modding bug! You going Syvecs too?

Charlie 17-03-2013 05:39 PM

What's the main advantages of having syvecs ?

C. J. 17-03-2013 07:49 PM

Protection if you install sensors and have it set up right

SpecB 18-03-2013 06:51 AM

As C.J. said, better protection out of the box with knock (or active knock) and wideband (sensor needed), then you can add a 'sensor pack' e.g. Oil temp/pressure, water temp, air intake temp, get, etc. etc.

Switchable maps, datalogging, DCCD control (if fitted) anti-lag and L/C.

chrisp 18-03-2013 06:58 AM

Once you've done that with the sensor pack and wide band your looking at best part of 2.5k id guess at now.
Very good bit of kit but just got to weigh it up if you really need it. Standard ECU has got a blob happily to 500bhp and it was safe enough and never blew up, granted he was probably an exception

Charlie 18-03-2013 10:05 AM

Ok this all sounds very interesting maybe it will be on the to do list, last thing I need is it all to go Pete tong . Al and lc sound fun as well.
Do these really cost 2.5k ?

chrisp 18-03-2013 12:45 PM

£1800 - £1900 I think supplied and fitted now with a map or two, throw in wideband at approx £150, sensors at £3-400 plus then your done

jura11 18-03-2013 02:58 PM

As above guys said,Syvecs is worth to have,I wouldn't consider to go with any other ECU on our car.

On yours OE ECU you can have ALS,LC,switchable maps(fuel and boost),mafless etc, speak to Neil@Slowboy racing

About the Syvecs again depends, where are you buying and who will be mapping etc.,sensor pack yes I would add(if you have sensors from your existing gauges you can use them and get them re-wired to TimH@JTi),wideband great addition plus many other function which on other ECU are for extra fees

Got my car back today from Neil at SBR and wow !!!
Only part way there due to suppliers not being able to send the right front mount intercooler and be completely out of stock for a few weeks?:boom:
With just the mdx555 fitted
And induction kit, mapped with the TMIC ,very happy :more:
Car said to be about 380 bhp ish, can't imagine what another 40 bhp will be like:drive:
Soo much power from before, feels like a new car.

Nice one Charlie, if you go to the Asda Charity day this year I`ll see you there then?

Charlie 28-03-2013 11:28 PM

I'll defo be up for the asda day again , was a good turn out last year!

SpecB 29-03-2013 06:42 AM

What's the spool on the 555 like?

I've got the non billet 555 -450 and it feels like there is hardly any lag at all on it, I'll have a nosey at the graphs and see when its hitting full boost

ScoobyStu 29-03-2013 01:20 PM

Nice one mate. Not a bad thing making the leap in two steps!

Charlie 30-03-2013 12:13 AM

Spool on the 450 bhp mdx555 billet is as good if not better than stock, notice full boost @ 3500 rpm and holds all the way to redline.
I imagine it will be a little more laggy when fmic is fitted ?

chrisp 30-03-2013 11:24 AM

Graph with md555 450 non billet on a standard 2.5 lump

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...ps83996387.jpg

SpecB 30-03-2013 04:44 PM

That's interesting, what headers and up-pipe are you running and I guess you have AVCS with std blob eye 2.5 heads, mine is a non billet MD321t+ and spool is quite a lot quicker.
http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps5766b0a4.jpg

chrisp 30-03-2013 05:48 PM

Nope, v5 sti heads, GT spec headers I think with the up pipe they came with

SpecB 30-03-2013 05:51 PM

Might be worth looking at the up-pipe as I have GT Spec headers but with a 'Harvey' Up-Pipe this should give you even better spool.

chrisp 30-03-2013 05:56 PM

After reading up its exactly as people say, the t+ spools up a few hundred rpm quicker than the md555, you've not got avcs heads have you?

chrisp 30-03-2013 05:59 PM

Think for now I'll leave it as is, does a good enough job for me, if I take the engine out again then I'll look into changing for one of Harvey's, AS performance sell them now I think

Anger 30-03-2013 06:02 PM

Yours is an X Nick and was made for Charlie

SpecB 30-03-2013 07:24 PM

I'm on AVCS as well, yes mines an X basically a V- or T+ according to TD who built it its a V with a T exhaust housing.

chrisp 30-03-2013 10:34 PM

So a set of avcs heads and a trick up pipe and that should see 5-700rpm spool increase, that would do

SpecB 31-03-2013 06:51 AM

The up-pipe alone will give you around 300rpm based on the average gains seen. Mines one of the AS performance versions as it's new.

What ECU are you running as AVCS would need Alcatel or Syvecs?

chrisp 31-03-2013 08:31 AM

I'm running syvecs on mine. How much were the up pipes? Sounds like a good gain just from that

Anger 31-03-2013 08:48 AM

Same turbo 2.1

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18...D940D99021.jpg

SpecB 31-03-2013 12:28 PM

Thanks James but we're looking at spool so do you have the boost plot, I know it made more on a 2.1 but I'm running a 2.5 so at far less boost

Charlie 28-06-2013 11:48 PM

Car all booked in to be finished the week starting 22nd July , really can't wait now !

ScoobyStu 29-06-2013 02:51 PM

About time eh mate?! Glad you're getting finished in time for Asda day, i'll be in for a ride! ;-)

Charlie 30-06-2013 08:47 PM

Let's hope SBR ain't too busy!

ScoobyStu 01-07-2013 02:17 PM

Fingers crossed for you mate :-)

Charlie 23-07-2013 06:23 PM

Car has been collected today so should see it back by the end of the week , actually excited now after waiting 7 months!

ScoobyStu 23-07-2013 07:39 PM

Hope so mate, bet you can't wait?!

Charlie 01-08-2013 10:25 PM

Had a little taster of the car today with 95% done and wow what a difference , just waiting on the boost controller to sort out my erratic boost issue and It should be good for Monday.
Can't wait to see how it performs on the track with all the extra power :)
Thanks to slowboyracing for all the hard work and couple of late nights!

Bolesroor 02-08-2013 08:39 AM
