Misfire... Help Please
Hi, if you read my first couple of post then most will know that I recently bought an 02 Bugeye with 41k on the clock with history to back the mileage up.
It has always from the day I picked it up had a slight hesitation/miss when accelerating before going onto to boost. I put this down to the possible blow on the exhaust. I have now I binned the 5" tailpipe for a prodrive backbox and fitted a standard dump valve and had the up pipe replaced with a decat uppie which has cured the blow but the miss/hesitation is still there. The car has had a superchips remap in life and came with a dyno printout showing 277bhp and is currently boosting to 1.4-1.5 bar which im assuming it was mapped to. When the mechanic fitted the uppie he removed the adjustable boost valve as he thought it was overboosting. I drove the car home and it was pulsing up and down on boost and holding back, almost as though the ecu was now trying to compensate for the change in boost pressure. I have now refitted the the boost valve which has improved it again but still leaving the hesitation. Do you think I should start with the basics and replace plugs first and if no improvement have a look at the coil packs? Just ordered 4x NGK 7s for it. I know with the change of uppie it needs to be put back on the rolling road, but I woulkd like to try and cure this miss/hesitation first. |
Be worth getting a proper map, super chips are not maps and will not give a correct map for the car, best bet is to get Simon JGM to look at it

1.4-1.5 bar is high all things considered. Could be a multitutude of things TBH could be split pipe, restrictor pill missing or wrong size, boost control solenoid, airfilter and decat causing boost spike, dodgy map.
As said superchips remap not reallly a remap more off the peg job, best getting one of the mappers to have a look, or perhaps pop along to a meet if there is one going any time soon, so a few of the guru's can check some of the plumbing for you. |
there is no "map" involved in Superchips for the Impreza to my knowledge its basically a glorified fuel-cut defencer and a bleed valve!!
if you haven't already take all components off and throw them into space............. i suspect your issue now with boost is that the pipe-work isn't quite back to factory std?? |
