Slight difference in heat ranges nothing bad there that I can see. One of the mappers will cast more light on it mate.

thanks Nige, just not sure what I was looking at to be honest! I know to expect some carbon deposits but thats about it!

Not excessive amounts but I had to top it up more than I thought was normal

Looks like it was getting a bit warm to me?

Never had any overheating issues with the car, just trying to sort out whether to sell the block as a whole or strip it down and sell the block halves and rods and maybe keep the crank?

Don't really want to spend any/much on it if there is something amiss!

Never had any engine problems just don't know exactly what I'm looking at with the pistons, if that isn't right then what has caused it and if it is ok then I'll just sell it as it is

Right, Been doing some more reading and had a look at all the valves. 2 of the valves are caked in oil, one of these valves was quite hard to get out compared to all the others which pretty much just dropped out when i tapped them with my finger. All the valves sat flush when I took the heads off and the one that was a pain to get out doesn't look bent.

I'm now wondering if I had a couple of worn valve guides or stem seals?

The two valves in question....

One of the valves compared to what the rest of the valves looked like....

Your right looks like valve stem oil seals may of gone hard.

A few people had suggested the car was running rich hence the condition of the pistons, someone else suggested that Ringlands could be an issue......

Took the pistons out and Cylinder 2 Piston looked like this! Oops!

Just got to decide whether to stick some forged pistons in and sell the shortblock whole or strip it and sell the halves and maybe keep the crank to go in to the Ej22??

Kin hell  such a low mileage engine to. Keep crank & sell the rest mate. That short engine came ready built straight from Subaru.

It's strange as that was the cleanest piston too!, there's no marks or wear anywhere inside the block so going to get it cleaned up and do just that :-)

Had a look on some other forums and it seems its quite a common problem with stock pistons in the more recent ej25 blocks so at least its not a one off occurrence and does go some way in explaining the extra oil consumption I was having!

Hence the ugly's giving more probs than the Hawks maybe.
