Harnesses without removing back seats??
 

Just wondering if it's possible to put harnesses for the drivers and passengers seats without having to take out the back seats?

Not if you want them to fit right

Harness bar... But wouldn't have people in the back

I fitted some 4 point harnesses and a harness bar 2 weeks ago, i had hook fixings instead of bolt fixings (easy removal) which i've managed to hook onto the rear seatbelt fixing points under the back seat but as the chaps have said above, they fit but not as good as they could be (angle from fixing points to shoulders doesn't look ideal) and the harness bar in an accident for back seat passengers would probably feel like getting hit in the face with a sledge hammer!!

i'll try and find the link i had for instructuctions, it basically says the shoulder straps need to come out horizontally across a harness bar or roll cage because if you fix them straight down to the front or rear seats you'll break your neck in an accident as your head will be the only bit that moves! it also said that if you have just a harness bar and no cage and are harnessed in if your car rolled, the roof could cave in and crush you as regular seat belts allow some body movement from side to side.

Yes you can, you use the lower rear seatbelt fixing points, replace the bolts with eyebolts then attach the belts and replace the seats. This is how I do it for Sprinting in roadgoing class. However I never use them on the road and you cant use them with rear passengers.

Technically yes! but you can leave the harnesses in and use the back seats :)

For example when I drive to events fully loaded with tyres,tools etc the harnesses aren't used (but attached) just folded up so I can load all my stuff in the back, I use the OE belt on the road all the time anyway. Only once I'm unloaded and sprinting (or on a trackday) do I use the belts.

In fact I only use my bucket seats on a race weekend - all other times I put the OE seats in, so much easier than the faff and hastle race seats and harnesses give you day to day, why anyone chooses to use them for a road car is beyond me :) The only benefit they give is feedback on the limit of slip which I don't do on the road.

Just got back from working in france hence the silence!

Was only really hoping to fit them for the odd days track driving, but with 4 doors for everyday driving I don't fancy having to "block" the rear seats for the occasional track day

Thanks for the replies, Justin that sounds like a good idea, popping racing seats in when needed, is that massively time consuming or fairly quick?

4 bolts a seat and about ten mins each seat .

Why not go for a set of the Schroth QuickFit Harnesses

We are run the harness without the harness bar and our wagon has been daily and must say,its pain to drive with the harness without the harness bar.

As above rear seats are not usable anymore if you are fitting the harness to existing the bolts for OE harness at rear,yes you can use them,but as for emergency.
