Possible stupid question alert
 

My two front tyres are different to my two back tyres but all seem to have an equal amount of tread. One of my fronts has a chunk taken out of the sidewall which is fairly deep (was like it when i bought it guv) so i really need to replace it. Would i do well to just buy a new set all round?
To be honest, the tyres on there are pretty crap when it comes to grip and i've never known a 4wd car to be so slidey.

You don't have to replace the lot. From what you have said though yes do. Just make sure you get a decent brand. :drive:

Sidewalls are the weakest part of the tyre so defo change them, its a legal requirement that tyres have to match on each axle so atleast change the two front tyres.....

Blackcircles normally have offers on and are worth a look.....

Not quite right. legaly, the tyres do not have to be the same on an axle, they just have to be the same type, i.e. both Radials or both cross ply.
As most modern tyres are now radials, this doesnt seem to be as much of a problem as it used to be.

It is however good practice to have the same tyre tread patern and depth on all wheels, or at least the same axle so you have the same amount of grip & breaking force either side of the car.
