Probably could have got away with just the HG's but better safe than sorry.

scotty 23-10-2014 07:22 AM

Good to hear that the bug will be healthy again and back on the road soon unless you are doing some more mods to it .

SpecB 23-10-2014 10:24 AM

Just planning a tidy up when the engine goes back on, would like a turbo swap if the right one comes up?

If I knew you were ordering gaskets I've got gaskets sitting in the house brand new for headers, turbo to down pipe and bolt kit and two bolt up pipe gasket to headers .

SpecB 02-11-2014 06:00 PM

That's a bugger! It was slightly annoying having to buy 4 inlet manifold gaskets to use with the thermal spacer!

SpecB 11-11-2014 06:02 PM

Here we go!

Yep think the baffle plate and cossie gaskets will do the job very well liking it .

SpecB 14-11-2014 06:02 PM

It's back! Well at my parents as I couldn't be in all day waiting for the delivery! Should have it in the garage by tomorrow evening then I can start re-assembly!

Coming together nicely dude. Look forward to seeing how she goes :)

SpecB 29-11-2014 07:15 PM

Engine is now fundamentally complete, ready to go in and be fired up!

Hongkongfooi 29-11-2014 07:57 PM

You ever try the stage 4 cc clutch before nick?

scottpolestar 29-11-2014 08:11 PM

Wow spec list on that engine going to be a quick car

SpecB 30-11-2014 07:06 AM

I went straight for the stage 5 purely for stock reasons! The 4 probably would have done and driven better I imagine.

Lucky 30-11-2014 09:32 AM

Be good to see it back on the road. Looking good mate. :ok:

Finally got it back in - we'd put the engine mounts on the wrong way round so took the whole engine out again - only took and hour to get it all back in once they were swapped over!

Engine needs bolting in fully and then it's the re-plumbing!

Quick question on the first start with syvecs is it best to disconnect the crank or cam sensor?

Nice one Nick,
hope you as pleased as I was when I got mine going again :ok:

SpecB 13-12-2014 06:56 PM

It's alive! Well it was after I connected the 'other' wire to the starter motor!

Driven it out of the garage and down the private road at the back. Just need to sort insurance and MOT then put around 400 miles in to bed the bearings then it's time to drive it again!

Steve_PPP 13-12-2014 11:33 PM

Good to see its back mate, look forward to seeing it sometime soon :)

SpecB 23-12-2014 09:07 AM

Just dropped it in for the MOT, fingers crossed!

seventune 23-12-2014 09:11 AM

Awesome stuff. Nothing quite like getting a scoob back on the road :)

SpecB 23-12-2014 09:29 AM

Not feeling 100% confident it'll pass though felt a bit of a misfire as I drove to the MOT (about 500m) thinks it needs a bit more of a run before it'll be happy but here's hoping!

SpecB 17-03-2015 07:16 PM

Been a while now but have got the car through the MOT even with a massive misfire! Which I now think I've traced to a failed coil pack- well none of the others are this shape!

http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/o...pse944336f.jpg

Hopefully Dad's Forester has the same coil packs so we'll use one to check if that's definately the issue before ordering a new one.

C. J. 17-03-2015 07:17 PM

Have some here

SpecB 17-03-2015 08:10 PM

If dads are not the same I may take you up on that to test of it is definately the coil pack that's gone, I'll probably replace the whole set with new if it's definately failed.

SpecB 24-03-2015 07:00 PM

Running on 4! Time to try and rack up the miles now!

Steve_PPP 24-03-2015 07:09 PM

Nice one mate :ok: Be good to see it back on the road :)
