Awesome :ok: can't wait to get mine at Xmas meal

NL03Scooby 22-11-2015 04:23 PM

Spent the afternoon fighting to get the diffuser on the rear bumper, no it doesn't do a lot but I think it looks smart and was on the blue car so was there to be used again.

When we were in Germany this year Dave noticed how it flapped about a bit so I came up with a quick fix to try and keep things less flappy...

If my OCD kicks in I might get some black cable ties in the future but for the time being its out of sight so I'm not bothered by them at the moment.

All I need now is someone to follow behind me and check on how flappy (or not) things are.

Ginola 22-11-2015 04:40 PM

Good effort! Need to follow you for a bit now to see if it still flaps about, was it cold doing that? ;)

It was a bit chilly yeah but at least it wasn't raining! Cold hands and small screws and washers don't mix well, you can't feel what you are doing and regularly have to pick them off the floor again and again...

Rdlangy1 22-11-2015 05:03 PM

Looks good rob :ok: - liking that a lot..

Rdlangy1 22-11-2015 05:40 PM

I hate how filthy they are, but haven't had time to clean them and the roads are really grim at the moment.

Thanks! It is a little on the tough side just leaving it filthy but at this time of year if it's driven regularly you would have to clean it every day to be happy... As mine is from Scotland it's probably used to it, Scotty would know!

Banstead Stig 22-11-2015 06:38 PM

Yep, mine does about 1,000 miles a month, so you're fighting a losing battle!

Yes I have! It was a pain to sort it, took a hacksaw and pair of tin sips to hack away at that stupid bolt but now things are secure and as they should be.

scooby doo 23-11-2015 11:22 AM

Very nice! I had that diffuser to locks smart

Lucky 23-11-2015 01:55 PM

Looing good Rob. Remember if you need any badges I have the full set sitting around doing nothing.:ok:

C. J. 23-11-2015 03:16 PM

As much I hated keeping my black bug clean I think it's the best colour for a newage . So much so I find myself looking at bugs and blobs in black !:angst: :D

All the time I had my blue one I remember looking at and loving the black ones that turned up at meets, I think they look very smart in black and fate kind of set me up for one (in a round-about way...). looking at them online is a dangerous game...

Never seen another one with the diffuser in the flesh yet, when mine was originally fitted at Scoobyworld they said it was the first they had ever done. The photo of it on their website is my old car the day it was fitted.

Thank you! I see you are now in the market for an Sti after selling your WRX, have you looked at any yet?

I remember when I first looked at Impreza Sti's they were all blue, the first one I bought was a blue one too. I got this black one through a bit of chance from Scotty and remember always having a bit of lust for a black one.

I never realised how hard it would be to keep clean and polished, the paint shows up every little mark you can imagine, I even got a machine polisher just to keep the swirls at bay!

Rdlangy1 31-01-2016 08:28 PM

We need a day before Germany doing both motors mate :polish: :polish:

Perhaps we should have a SES Detailing day at mine with pizza and beer and what not for all those interested prior to Germany :ok:

Not been to look at any yet just looked online at some for sale as only sold mine today. But like you say they all blue and after owning a blue one I kinda fancy a different colour.

The black is a nice colour with the gold flake in it but I imagined like you said it be a night mare to keep clean etc and I'm really fussy with my cars being clean/ hating swirls! The other option is silver

Sounds like we have some serious planning to get sorted, this is a great idea! Be nice to get the cars really clean ready for the trip.

Think mine will need a clean weather its a white or black one you never know .

NL03Scooby 27-02-2016 04:27 PM

Black beauty .

Another small update, I finally got round to ordering and fitting a new rear anti-roll bar. I had a 22mm one from the blue car but it wasn't correct for the black car due to different rear drop links.

Having the opportunity to compare the arb for 'C' shaped drop links to that for standard straight ball joint type setup, I was quite surprised at the difference. Although not massive I'm sure it would have had an impact on the car should I have tried running my old arb.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...9f219d98c8.jpg

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...88d8b2cf5b.jpg

I imagine the narrow arb meant for the 'C' shape drop link set up would have upset the drop links on the 2004 car forcing them to be somewhat angled.

Even the designs at the end were pretty different...

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...55fcc220a2.jpg

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...56c2b87e92.jpg

Everything fitted up nicely and my eyes filled up with varying bits of debris, I even took part in the obligatory 'drop a spanner on your face' routine that every home mechanic should try.

Rdlangy1 27-02-2016 04:53 PM

Look great mate :ok: should be a nice addition come Ring time :ok:

scotty 27-02-2016 05:50 PM

Ahmen to that are you doing front aswell interesting about drop links situation too .

Not looking to do the front at the moment, I understand it isn't as essential as the rear. The drop link situation is a good one, black beauty has a far better set up with standard style drop links compared to the 'C' shaped style of earlier models.

NL03Scooby 13-03-2016 07:05 PM

Getting in to prep mode for Germany so getting the all important service parts. Engine oil, gearbox oil and rear diff oil has all been ordered, oil filter was hand delivered as a gift from Ryan, thanks! I have bought some new Whiteline track rod ends and will get the car booked up for a geo set up shortly.

Rdlangy1 13-03-2016 07:07 PM

Great job rob :ok:

NL03Scooby 14-03-2016 09:38 PM

New parts, sometimes you never want to get them out the box.
