How strict are goodwood on helmets? Is there a particular specification for them? I have a shoei bike helmet from the mid 90s. Any good? Or, do they hire helmets on the day?

Yes you can hire helmets, dont think your Shoei will be inspected, its probably OK.

Steve_PPP 28-03-2014 07:37 AM

I use my own bike helmet and have no problem :)

simba 28-03-2014 07:44 AM

Long as the lid is not damaged and does up correctly it will be fine I use my bike lid and never had a problem at any track

You should be fine, I used a 20 year old bike helmet at Goodwood and brans np. I have since bought newer as the lining was falling apart :(

Ginola 31-03-2014 12:12 PM

Not sure If I will be able to take part in this now, testing the car last night with r888s on and noticed clicking from the NS front, think I need a CV joint :( Will confirm later today.

If not I will have 2 slots to sell :(

I'd be interested in another slot if it fits in timing wise.

Frenchie 31-03-2014 07:54 PM

What time is everyone getting to Goodwood? Are we meeting up on route,BP stn on A23/A27 or layby on the A27 near Amex stadium.
Cheers.

Red Baron 31-03-2014 07:58 PM

I suggest two convoys, one stupidly early for those on track as they have to attend the briefing at 8:30 and another one at a sensible time for those if us just spectating.

I'll be coming from Hastings so anywhere along the A27 is fine with me.

Shane

Ginola 31-03-2014 09:20 PM

I have it sorted!! Zip tie ftw!, All I have to worry about now is passing the sound test and some evil compressor surge in 6th gear ;)

I'll leave mine and do the A283/B2139/A29/A27 run as its fastest for me. see you all there at around 8ish?

The Goodwood Track Day
5th April 2014
Joining Instructions
Please read these joining instructions carefully, they are designed to help you and to also enable the smooth running of the event.

Saturday 5th April Track Day

Please access the Goodwood Motor Circuit via the main gates; which will be open by 07.15; where you should head straight to the noise test area which will be starting from 07.55. This area is located through the main vehicle access tunnel, next to the toilet block on the Richmond Lawn which is beside the designated refuelling area where an ‘A’ board will be prominently displayed.
Once your car has passed the noise test (105dB – you will be asked to volunteer your rev limit then noise testing will be conducted at ¾ RPM) you will be issued with a 105 green sticker directed either to the pit lane or into the queuing system. Should you not wish to go directly to the pit lane, then please use one of the historic paddock shelters of your choice to park your car.
Sign on and the drivers briefing will take place in the Jackie Stewart Pavilion (JSP) from 07.45 to 08.30 when the briefing will commence.

All drivers must sign on and attend the drivers briefing. Anyone wishing to gain access to the Pit lane or be a passenger should also sign on; dependant on numbers the briefing is a priority for Drivers only.

Drivers will then be issued with a wrist band with a number on it in exchange for the sign on sheet that will give you access to the circuit as a driver; passengers will be signed on in a similar way but need not attend the Driver briefing.

A second briefing will be held for late drivers at 09.20 in the JSP.

Please then make your way to the pit lane and park your car in line on the right hand side ready to be called forward by the marshals; this will be mentioned in the Drivers briefing. New drivers will have an opportunity to be driven round the circuit to make the optimum use of their track time in the Goodwood Mondeo (Before 0900 without helmets after 0900 with). Emphasis will be on lines and turn-in points. If in doubt do the familiarisation – it will pay dividends. We will also have access to an instructor; if you are new or just want to improve your overall performance then take advantage of the offer. Speaking from experience, it pays dividends.

The morning track sessions will commence at 09.00 and will run in durations of up to 15 minutes. Once a session is finished, join the end of the queuing system and await being called forward for your next session; you must be prepared to stay with your vehicle and push it forward.
Lunch will be between 12.30 and 13.30. Afternoon Driver’s brief will be at 1300 for those only doing a PM session
You are free to make your own lunch arrangements either at the Aero Club Café or at the NAAFI Wagon.
Fuel is not available on site this can be obtained from Sainsbury’s garage which is 1.4 miles south of the circuit.
Complimentary Teas and Coffees will be available until stocks are exhausted!

The afternoon track sessions will commence at 13.30 and will run in sessions of up to 15 minutes. The afternoon track sessions finish at 17.00.

Please remember that you will need a suitable crash helmet to participate in the event and arms and legs must be covered.
If you do not own a helmet then you can hire one on the day at a cost of £10.00 per person.
Should you wish to noise test your cars noise prior to the event, then this can be done by arranging a free test directly with the circuit office on 01243 755093.

For more information on how the noise test is conducted please go to www.goodwood.com and follow the links to Noise Management.

I hope you have found this information useful and would ask that you print it off and bring it to the event with you as a reference point.

Enter via the main entrance,

then if you wish drive straight ahead through the tunnel into the paddock area. (where we will be)

Or.

Enter via the main entrance,

and park on the left hand side, then you can use the foot tunnel to access the paddock area and be track side. :five:

555_Si 03-04-2014 07:09 AM

Flying back from Glasgow Friday night, don't expect me to be full of energy and cheerful on Saturday, haven't even had time to prep the car, so hope it is ok.

Mikemywagon 03-04-2014 11:14 AM

I will be down... Wish I could afford to put the wagon on the track. Need some proper sticky tires and a pay check. Anyway look forward to seeing you all down there.

Frenchie 03-04-2014 11:42 AM

Thanks for information Iain

Your better off to do your first few track days on some normal road tyre's to get used to how your car behaves at or near the limit of grip., really all you need to do is make sure the brakes work and its not leaking anything ;)

Mikemywagon 03-04-2014 12:15 PM

Hey Ginola,

Have got some fast road kevlar pads on her but I just can't afford it at the moment. Money is very tight. Look forward to watching you guys blat around the track. Another time for me :-(

Scruff 03-04-2014 10:56 PM

I don't suppose any of you lot own a code reader that'll work on a bug? Mines been on since taking my induction kit off. It runs fine so I'm not worried about it... It's just annoying and probably running a bit rich. If anyone has one, would they mind bringing it with them on Saturday.

I can read it on my phone if you like with a BTdongle and reset the ECU if needed, did you turn the key with the MAF disconnected?, or do it with the key on in the ignition, this will throw a CEL.
If you did then you can stop/start the engine 5 times to clear it if this is the case.

I'm sure there might be a laptop and lead on hand though ;)

Scruff 03-04-2014 11:35 PM

Hang on, I've written that wrong. I fitted the induction kit and it switched the engine light on so then I put the air box back with panel filter and hoped it would turn itself back off. But it hasn't. I reckon a reset will sort it out.

Hongkongfooi 04-04-2014 07:43 AM

Forecast is a light rain :sadnod:

Scott.T 04-04-2014 07:50 AM

I will bring the laptop so can read subaru code rather then generic code.

Scruff 04-04-2014 07:54 AM

Thankyou Silversurfer

Same here, cleaned it yesterday and already looks like I've been rallying in Corsica.

Tomorrow's weather will be a bit of early morning smog followed by blazing sunshine and a cool breeze.

Might buy some new windscreen wipers just in case though...
