My car is trying its best not to make the trip to Germany... First clutch problems and then a front spring has decided to snap

Crowman 20-05-2012 12:54 AM

Am back home early as phils 430 scud retired , very bad weekend for the team , gear select issues throught the weekend , the team removed and stripped box down over night last night , box fine up on its air jacks , lasted 1 lap of the final :-(

Still an amazing weekend , spoilt the whole time .

We pulled out of a car park opposite the GP circuit at 11.15 German time and I walked through my door at 17.30 .

Took 4.5 hrs from GP circuit to tunnel on way back .

I spoke to Phil the owner and driver of the scud about his route and he came via Brussels on way down and I suggested his route back via Antwerpe , spoke to him this evening and it saved him just over an hour going home via Antwerp .

Dunkirke to Antwerpe then pick up E313 , onto the A4 then onto the 61 .
I counted I think 6 spread cameras which were early into the journey , we also passed at least 5 shell garages . The A4 and 61 are both long straight motorways , the 61 had unrestricted sections . There were the concrete stretches, not sure if they will be as bad as the other route for noise as we were in comfy car :-)

This new route is no where near as scenic and pretty as the usual route , but is quicker based on our journeys this week .

The other point to remember is we did not hang around, making very good use of the unrestricted bits.

I wouldn't go for 4 hours. I would run out :(

Sorry to hear about your loss, Nige.

Nige, really sorry to hear about your loss mate.

I will give you a call tomorrow for a quick chat if you don't mind?

Tim, are your chances not good at all then? Or will you still come in the RB?

It depends on if I can get Simon to come down to newhaven tomorrow (he is very busy though)as the car won't start and over fuels, and needs mapping and it needs an mot on Tuesday.....worried.....very:brickwall:

Sim doesn't want to take the RB as it has only just been put back together which i understand....there is an element of that with mine as i wont have driven it since late february

If Simon comes down he will sort it , MOT should be straight forward .

The driving it without any real test drives is a worry for sure mate

worzel 20-05-2012 08:16 PM

I hope all this can be sorted Tim, would be a shame to miss two on the trot.

Scooby_Greg 20-05-2012 10:31 PM

Nige, sorry to hear the news.

Tim, fingers crossed. Sure Simon will come through for you.

Does anyone need a magnetic GB sticker? Bought one but forgot that the car isn't magnetic.. My face was a picture when I tried putting it on and it dropped off. D'oh

Crowman 20-05-2012 10:38 PM

Greg have you got GB on your plates , if so you don't need a sticker .
I will take the magnetic one , cheers mate

Crowman 20-05-2012 10:43 PM

Scooby_Greg 21-05-2012 10:29 AM

When were we looking to actually go on the Ring? Do you normally try and go as a group? I am struggling to get insurance for mine whilst on the Ring (£1500 per day with £20,000 excess is the cheapest so far whilst it's free on any other track and not prepared to do it uninsured.
Looking to hire a Clio Cup or something cheap for 4 laps and obviously need to book a slot - they'd recommended first thing on Saturday as being the best time for weekend? Wanted to make sure it fitted with the flow for the weekend!

Crowman 21-05-2012 10:45 AM

Hi greg
Some will be heading straight out on the friday evening, and most will be going on sat AM
I looked at the Clio's not bad price, but the deposit is about 3k if i remebre.
Have you found something better with the clios

Ouch, thats some scary premiums. But i understand why you wouldn't want to risk going out there without it, its just too much of a car to risk it. I might go down for a couple of laps on the Friday evening or failing that, we quite often go down before breakfast on either the Saturday or Sunday for when it opens at 8am, one of the quietest times.

Will see what i can do, although based on our current plans you might get to Jackies before we do! Going to wander round Namur's Citadel on the Friday morning and we'll drive over after that.

Just to add - Nige, sorry to hear about your news, hope you can still make it, trip wouldn't be the same without you old boy.
Tim - hope the scoob is sorted in time, but do you have a backup plan?

Yes, found one where deposit is 25% of hire charge. Also available in RHD too!

Anger 21-05-2012 11:26 AM

GRD has came to the rescue on my suspension problem :)

Now to sort the clutch, the exedy has warn uneven for some reason, 2000 miles and fooked, not bad for a 1500pound clutch :(

Anger 21-05-2012 11:32 AM

Thanks to MR Worzel for trying to sort something at RCM aswell :)
